How to Care for Your Scabbard Chape
Since this product is made from carbon steel without a stainless finish, it is susceptible to rust. This is a historically accurate feature but requires some maintenance:
- Regularly treat it with maintenance oil (e.g., WD-40, mineral oil, or synthetic gun oil).
- If surface rust appears, it can be easily removed with fine steel wool and re-oiled.
- Never install the chape onto wet or damp leather without thoroughly treating the inside of the metal first (e.g., with lacquer or wax), otherwise, it may rust from the inside out.
