The round shield has a broad, gently raised border ending in a reinforced rolled rim. A concentric moulded ridge separates the outer border from the main decorative field and gives the surface additional depth. At its centre is a symmetrical emblem resembling a horned mask or stylised ram's head. Two circular elements, sweeping horns and long converging lines create a powerful fantasy motif suited to Conan's cinematic world.

The front has a dark brown to almost black patina, with warmer bronze highlights visible along the raised edges. Subtle variations in colour, hand-finishing marks and fine scratches support the deliberately aged appearance. They are characteristic of the replica rather than manufacturing defects.

Leather Fittings And Correct Handling

The back is equipped with a leather handgrip containing a wooden handle and a separate curved leather forearm strap. For decorative carrying, pass the forearm through the curved strap and take a secure hold of the main grip. The arm strap stabilises the shield, while the handgrip carries most of its weight.

Before handling it, check the nuts, leather fittings and wooden core. As the shield weighs approximately 4 kg, hold it only for as long as necessary and keep it above a safe surface. The leather fittings are not designed to support the shield during permanent wall display.

Conan's Cimmeria belongs to the fictional Hyborian Age, a setting combining elements of antiquity, the early Iron Age and imaginative sword-and-sorcery fantasy. This design is therefore not a reconstruction of an archaeologically documented Cimmerian shield. Historical Cimmerians are known from written sources of the first millennium BC as mobile groups active around the northern Black Sea region and parts of western Asia.

Shields used by mounted steppe peoples would probably have prioritised manageable weight and ease of use from horseback. This substantial metal shield instead serves a cinematic purpose, emphasising an imposing silhouette, dark symbolism and an instantly recognisable appearance. Care Of The Metal, Patina And Leather

• Remove dust with a soft, dry cloth.
• Do not use brass polish or abrasive cleaners on the front, as these may remove the dark patina.
• Wipe away fingerprints after handling because perspiration may mark the metal.
• Store the shield in a dry interior away from persistent moisture and direct sunlight.
• For prolonged storage, the metal may be protected with a very thin layer of suitable microcrystalline conservation wax.
• Clean the leather fittings with a dry cloth and apply only a small amount of neutral leather conditioner when necessary.
