Heraldic Scottish Claymore – Decorative Two-Handed Sword 143 cm

Detailed Decoration and Heraldry

Unlike plain battle versions, this sword is designed as a ceremonial or noble piece.

  • Blade: Made of stainless steel with a polished finish. A distinctive feature is the etching (engraving) in the upper third of the blade, depicting a series of heraldic crests and shields, giving the sword a touch of nobility.
  • Hilt: The crossguard has the typical downward slope towards the blade, terminating in stylised quatrefoils, which is iconic for a Claymore. The centre of the guard and the ricasso (the blunt part of the blade near the handle) are richly decorated with lion reliefs and floral motifs in gold.
  • Handle and Pommel: The black handle is divided by a metal ring and adorned with a gold fleur-de-lis. The wheel-shaped pommel features a detailed relief of a lion fighting a unicorn, the traditional supporters of the Scottish coat of arms.

History of the "Great Sword"

The name Claymore comes from the Gaelic claidheamh mòr, simply meaning "great sword". These weapons were the symbol of Scottish clans from the 15th to the 17th centuries. They were renowned for their length and striking power. While original swords were austere, in later periods (especially during the 19th-century Romantic era), such decorated variants became popular as symbols of family history and honour.

Important Warning: For Display Only

This sword is strictly decorative.

  • Material: The blade is made of stainless steel. This material is great for maintenance (it does not rust), but it is too brittle for impact when used in long blades.
  • Safety: Never fence with the sword or strike objects. There is a risk of the blade snapping at the tang and causing serious injury. The edge is blunt (approx. 1 mm), but the point may be sharp.
  • Installation: Ensure the wooden plaque is securely mounted to the wall to support the weight and leverage of such a long sword.
