Renaissance Leather Belt with Decorative Groove and Historical Buckle
Historical Context and Practical Application
During the Renaissance, as well as throughout the Middle Ages, a belt was a fundamental part of the wardrobe for both men and women. It served not only an aesthetic purpose but a highly practical one. In eras when clothing often lacked pockets, a sturdy leather strap was used to suspend coin pouches, belt bags, daggers, or even swords. This specific model is based on a Renaissance design, but its simple and clean lines make it incredibly versatile. It will perfectly complement a tunic, a gambeson, or civil historical garments. When ordering, you can select your desired length, and if you provide your waist circumference, the holes will be punched exactly to measure so the belt fits you perfectly.
Leather Care and Maintenance
Leather is a wonderful natural material, but it requires a little of your attention to maintain its strength and flexibility. We recommend treating the belt at least twice a year with a high-quality leather balm, ideally beeswax-based. Gently rub the balm into the leather and let it absorb. If the belt gets wet, for example during rain at a reenactment battle, never dry it directly on a radiator or near an open fire—the leather could harden and crack. Let it dry naturally at room temperature. Please keep in mind that this is a handcrafted natural material; minor differences in colour and surface texture are natural characteristics, not defects.
Safety Warning
Although the belt is made of very strong and durable leather up to 4.5 mm (0.18 in) thick, it is intended exclusively as a clothing accessory and for carrying light gear. Never use it for climbing, abseiling, as a tow rope, or for securing persons. The material could tear or the buckle could give way, resulting in serious injury.
Recommended Accessories
To bring your historical appearance to perfection, we recommend acquiring a period-accurate leather pouch for your essentials and a high-quality Renaissance dagger, which will look fantastic suspended from this belt.
