Hand-Forged Ninja Sword "Shadow Dragon"
7xIf you are fascinated by the world of shadows, espionage, and feudal Japan, this sword is the embodiment of your imagination. It is a hand-forged Ninja sword (Ninjato) that immediately catches the eye with its dark, all-black design. This is not just a cheap tin decoration, but a solid piece of steel carrying the spirit of Shinobi warriors. Its blade is forged from 1045 carbon steel and blackened, which eliminates unwanted glint at night that could reveal a warrior's position. The dominant feature of the sword is the beautifully crafted square guard (tsuba) with a relief dragon motif, which is typical for ninja swords. Whether you are a collector or looking for the perfect accessory for your costume, this sword commands respect even in its scabbard. Further product information ...
Hand-Forged Ninja Sword "Shadow Dragon" with Black Blade
Construction and Details
The sword is designed with an emphasis on traditional appearance and functional construction. The handle (tsuka) is underlaid with ray skin (or a faithful imitation) and tightly wrapped with black cotton cord (ito) in the classic style, ensuring a firm and non-slip grip. The blade is secured in the handle by two bamboo pegs (mekugi), indicating a full-tang construction, and the sword is theoretically dismountable (though I recommend leaving this to experts). The black blade features a groove (bo-hi), which lightens it and produces a characteristic "whoosh" sound with a correct cut. It comes with a black lacquered wooden scabbard (saya) with a cotton cord (sageo).

Ninja Myth and Reality
Ninjas (Shinobi) were masters of espionage, sabotage, and unconventional warfare in feudal Japan. While pop culture presents an image of a ninja with a straight sword on their back, historical reality was more varied. Ninjas used whatever was at hand, often shorter swords similar to a wakizashi, which were easier to handle in the confined spaces of corridors. The straight blade, as seen on this model, is a popular modern interpretation. However, the square tsuba had a purpose – it could serve as a step when scaling walls if the sword was leaned against the ground.
Care and Safety Warning
Although the blade is made of quality steel and is sharp, we sell this sword primarily as a decorative and collectible item. While tough, 1045 steel is not designed for heavy cutting tests (Tameshigiri) on hard materials or bamboo. Warranty does not cover damage to the blade caused by cutting impacts.
- Rust Protection: Carbon steel can rust. Treat the blade regularly with oil (e.g., clove oil for swords or gun oil) and do not touch it with bare hands (sweat is corrosive).
- Safety: The sword is very sharp. Exercise extreme caution during handling, cleaning, or practicing drawing (Iaido). It is not a toy.
- Usage: Suitable for practicing forms (kata) in the air or as a decoration for a dojo or living room. Never use for contact fencing (blade on blade), as this would cause irreversible damage to the edge.
For complete care of this sword, I recommend purchasing a traditional Japanese sword cleaning kit with oil and powder ball.
