6 Aluminium Crossbow Bolts

Do you have a quality crossbow but are running low on ammo? Or are you simply looking for a more durable alternative to basic kit arrows? This set of six aluminium bolts is designed for recurve and compound crossbows that require ammunition around 14–15 inches in length. With a total length of 38 cm and a diameter of 8 mm, these bolts offer an ideal balance between speed and flight stability. They are made from a light but strong duralumin tube in an attractive dark red colour, making them easier to find in long grass or undergrowth. Thanks to the screw-in points, you can change target points for broadheads (where legally permitted) or replace a damaged tip if necessary. They are fitted with flexible polymer vanes that ensure precise guidance of the bolt immediately after leaving the rail. Further product information ...

Set of 6 Aluminium Crossbow Bolts – 13.5" Class (38 cm)

Features and Usage

These bolts represent the "golden mean" in the world of crossbow shooting. They are not small pistol crossbow bolts, nor are they long 20-inch arrows for high-performance hunting machines. They are ideal for sport and recreational crossbows with a draw weight of approximately up to 150–175 lbs. The aluminium shaft is stiff enough to absorb the energy of the shot without dangerous oscillation.

History: Bolt vs. Arrow

Crossbow terminology can be tricky. Historically, a crossbow projectile was called a "quarrel" or "bolt". It was shorter and thicker than a bow arrow to withstand the immense g-force upon release. These modern 38 cm projectiles are a hybrid – close in length to short arrows, but structurally corresponding to historical bolts. Thanks to the use of aerospace aluminium instead of wood, they achieve perfect straightness and consistency, something a medieval crossbowman would have paid a fortune for.

Maintenance and Safety

To make your bolts last as long as possible:

  • The Target is Key: Shoot exclusively at quality target butts designed for crossbows (dense foam, compressed straw). If you hit a tree, plank, or stone, the aluminium tube will bend or break irretrievably.
  • Inspection: Before every load, check that the bolt is straight and the point is tightened. A loose point can cause inaccuracy or damage the thread.
  • Lubrication: For easier removal from the target, I recommend applying a little silicone oil or arrow lube to the front part of the shaft (not on the vanes!).

I recommend purchasing an arrow puller, as these thin shafts can be difficult to pull out of a good target butt.
