12 Colourful Plastic Bolts for Pistol Crossbows
Fun with a pistol crossbow often ends the moment you fire your last bolt and can't find it in the long grass. With this set of twelve, you will always have plenty of ammunition. These plastic bolts are an economical and practical choice for recreational shooting at short distances. Their biggest advantage is the vibrant colouring – the set includes a mix of bold orange, yellow, and dark blue. This makes them much easier to find in the field than black or camouflaged variants. The body of the bolt is moulded from flexible plastic in one piece with the vanes, guaranteeing that the fletching will not peel off. The bolt is tipped with a sharp metal point for better penetration into the target butt. They are light, fast, and ideal for having fun in the garden. Further product information ...
Set of 12 Colourful Plastic Bolts for Pistol Crossbows – 6.5"
Usage and Compatibility
These bolts are designed exclusively for pistol crossbows with a draw weight of 50 to 80 lbs. Thanks to a length of 16.5 cm (approx. 6.5 inches), they fit most standard models. They are suitable for beginners because the plastic body is flexible and forgiving of minor handling errors. The colours also allow you to divide shooters into teams or easily see who hit the bullseye.

Historical Context: A Modern Alternative
Historical crossbow bolts (quarrels) were often made of hardwood with forged heads and fletching made of parchment, wood veneer, or leather. They were heavy and expensive to produce. These modern plastic castings are the exact opposite – they are extremely light, which allows pistol crossbows (which have a short power stroke) to impart a high initial velocity to the projectile. Plastic is the material of the 20th century that made archery accessible to the masses.
Important Usage Principles
Plastic bolts have limits that must be respected:
- Soft Targets Only: This is critical. Shoot only at foam or soft straw target butts. If you hit wood, a plank, or a wall, the plastic body will immediately snap or shatter.
- Temperature: Plastic becomes brittle in frost. I do not recommend using these bolts at temperatures below freezing, as they would crack easily.
- Inspection: Before loading, check that the shaft is not bent or cracked. Discard any damaged bolts.
For comfortable removal of bolts from the target, I recommend using silicone oil or arrow lube.
