Two-Handed Kriegsmesser with Scabbard | Landsknecht Weapon
A Knife That Wanted to Be a Sword
At first glance, the hilt construction captures your attention. Unlike swords, which typically have a tang hidden inside the grip and finished with a pommel, this weapon features a knife-like construction—wooden scales are riveted directly onto the flat tang of the blade. This detail is not accidental; historically, it allowed knifemakers to bypass the strict guild regulations of swordmakers. The hand-forged carbon steel blade is single-edged, with a blunt edge thickness of approx. 1 mm, making it safer for handling.
The weapon comes with a simple black scabbard that protects the blade during transport.
Handling and Usage
Thanks to the long handle, you can wield the messer with both hands spaced widely apart, giving you great leverage and speed when changing the direction of a cut. Although the manufacturer declares this weapon as "suitable for fencing," at Outfit4Events we value honesty: we do not provide a warranty against blade breakage. Therefore, we recommend this Kriegsmesser primarily for:
- Solo Drills: Ideal for training according to the fencing school of Johannes Lecküchner.
- Stage Combat: Suitable for theatrical fights where strikes are controlled.
- Costume Purposes: A perfect and visually striking accessory for LARP and re-enactment.

Care Instructions
Since the blade is made of carbon steel, it requires protection against moisture. Wipe it dry after every use and oil it (e.g., with WD-40 or gun oil). You can occasionally treat the wooden scales with linseed oil to prevent them from drying out and cracking. If you use the messer for contact drills, regularly check that the rivets in the handle remain tight.
