Tabletop Stand for Three Samurai Swords
Do you own a complete set of Japanese swords, but they are still lying sadly in a closet or a box? That is a great pity. For a samurai, the sword is the soul and deserves a place of honour in your home. This tabletop stand made of solid wood, stained in an elegant black, is designed to hold three weapons at once. It is ideal for displaying a traditional set (Katana, Wakizashi, and Tanto) or any other combination of your favourite blades. The minimalist design in deep black allows the beauty of the lacquered scabbards and ornate fittings of your swords to stand out without disturbing the overall impression of your interior. Black Wooden Tabletop Stand for Three Samurai Swords
The Culture of Sword Display (Katanakake)
In Japan, a sword stand (Katanakake) is not just a piece of furniture, but an important tool for maintaining the condition of the weapon. Here are a few rules and facts you should know:
- Edge Up: Japanese swords are always stored in the stand with the edge (Ha) facing upwards. This protects the sharp edge from dulling against the inside of the wooden scabbard and simultaneously prevents the scabbard from being cut by the weight of the blade.
- Handle to the Left: In times of peace or during a friendly visit, swords are displayed with the handle (Tsuka) to the left. This signals peaceful intentions, as it is more difficult and slower for a right-handed person to draw the sword from this position.
- Hierarchy: Typically, the shortest weapon (Tanto) is placed on the top tier, the Wakizashi in the middle, and the Katana at the bottom (or vice versa depending on the school and aesthetic preference) to highlight the length of the scabbards.
Features and Construction
The stand is made of solid wood, giving it the necessary stability and weight to prevent tipping even when fully loaded with steel swords. The surface is stained black, imitating traditional Japanese lacquer. The construction is simple and sturdy; the stand is intended to be placed on a dresser, table, mantelpiece, or in a display cabinet.

Stand Care
To keep the stand looking like new, simply dust it regularly with a soft duster or a dry cloth. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents or overly wet cloths to avoid damaging the wood finish. If you wish to increase the protection of your scabbards (Saya), you can stick a piece of felt or leather onto the contact surfaces of the stand, which will prevent potential scratching of the lacquer during frequent handling.
