John Lee Golden Flower Wakizashi – Sharp Folded Steel Sword

Wakizashi: The Guardian of Honour

While a samurai had to surrender his katana upon entering a house, the wakizashi (short sword) remained at his belt. It was his "guardian of honour," a weapon for close-quarters combat and a symbol of his status. By owning this sword, you acquire not only a functional weapon but also a piece of this fascinating history. The motif of golden Sakura blossoms on the guard reminds us of the transience of life and the beauty of the moment – a philosophy followed by ancient warriors.

Functionality and Craftsmanship

This sword is not just a decoration; it is fully functional:

  • Blade: Hand-forged from 1045 carbon steel and folded 12 times, creating over 8000 layers and a beautiful surface structure. The blade is sharp and features a groove (Bo-Hi) to reduce weight.
  • Usage: Thanks to its sharpness and construction, it is suitable for practising forms and cutting tests (tameshigiri) on soft materials (tatami mats).
  • Fittings: The handle is covered with real ray skin and wrapped in black cotton. The guard (Tsuba) is a replica of an 18th-century master's work.

Blade Material 12x Folded 1045 Carbon Steel (>8000 layers)
Total Length (without scabbard) approx. 77 cm (30.3 in)
Blade Length approx. 54.5 cm (21.5 in)
Handle Length approx. 22 cm (8.7 in)
Curve (Sori) approx. 15 mm (0.6 in)

Sword Care

Since the blade is made of carbon steel, it is not stainless. To maintain its shine and sharpness:

  • Regularly treat it with sword oil (e.g., Choji oil), especially after every touch or use.
  • Store it in a dry place.
  • Avoid contact between the blade and aggressive human sweat.

Safety Warning

This is a sharp weapon. Always exercise extreme caution when handling it. The sword is not intended for blade-on-blade contact combat or striking hard objects (wood, bone), as this would irreparably damage the edge. Sales are restricted to persons over 18 years of age.

We recommend purchasing a stand (preferably a double one if you also own the katana) and a cleaning kit for this sword.
