John Lee Aikuchi Tanto with Unokobi Zukuri Blade
Unique Naginata-Style Blade
The most distinctive feature of this tanto is the Unokobi Zukuri blade shape. This geometry is typical for Naginatas (Japanese spears) and is characterized by a thinned spine that widens again towards the tip, giving the blade excellent balance and piercing capability. The blade is hand-forged from 1045 carbon steel and is sharp, allowing for cutting tests (performed with caution). Traditional hardening is visible on the blade.
Traditional Guardless Mounting
The Aikuchi style means the knife has no guard (tsuba). The transition between the handle and the scabbard is seamless, giving the weapon a compact and stealthy appearance. The handle (tsuka) is covered with genuine ray skin (same) and wrapped with black cotton cord in a traditional style. The black lacquered wooden scabbard (saya) matches the handle perfectly, creating a unified look. The entire construction is fixed with bamboo pegs (mekugi), a mark of traditional construction.
