Wide Early Gothic Medieval Leather Belt with Floral Disc Buckle

Historical Context and Art Style

The inspiration for this magnificent belt falls into the thrilling period of the Crusades to the Holy Land, specifically relying on the aesthetics of the 12th to 13th centuries. In its artistic expression, the Early Gothic period moved away from the austerity of previous styles and began to use organic, floral, and plant ornaments abundantly. The large circular buckle featuring exactly this detailed relief pattern demonstrated the wealth and social status of its wearer. Similar prominent belts were worn over outer tunics or combat gambesons and formed a dominant element of the entire outfit.

Practical Use and Proper Wearing

Thanks to its respectable width of 4 cm (approx. 1.57 inches), this belt serves as an excellent and stable base for your historical equipment. You can easily hang a heavier leather pouch, a coin purse, a drinking horn, or a dagger on it. The buckle is firmly fixed using two massive metal rivets, ensuring high reliability of the joint. When dressing, the belt is classically threaded through the buckle. To achieve a perfect historical look, we recommend letting the excess end of the belt hang casually straight down from the buckle, which visually elongates the figure. Holes in the belt are punched individually, so it is strictly necessary to state your exact waist circumference when ordering (ideally measured over the layer of clothing on which you will wear the belt).

Leather Belt Care and Safety Principles

For the natural smooth cowhide to last for many years in perfect condition, it requires regular maintenance. We recommend treating the strap at least twice a year with a high-quality leather balm containing beeswax. This will help the leather retain its suppleness and moisture resistance. If the belt gets wet on your campaign, dry it exclusively slowly at room temperature. Never place it on a hot radiator and do not dry it near an open fire or with a hair dryer, as the leather would irreversibly dry out, harden, and crack. From a safety perspective, do not use the belt as a securing element for climbing or under excessive load; it is primarily a clothing and costume accessory.

Solider Ledergürtel, gute Verarbeitung zu fairem preis. Nach einer weile tragen wird der anfangs etwas steife Gürtel geschmeidig und Speckig wie er sein soll.
