High Gothic Leather Nobleman Boots with Lily Cuff and Back Lacing
Historical Context and Unique Design
The elongated and slightly upturned toe, known as poulaines or crakows, was the absolute hit of European fashion from the 12th to the 15th century. The rule was simple: the longer the toe, the higher the social status. However, this model of nobleman boots boasts other exceptional details as well. The wide folded cuff is decorated with the heraldic lily motif (fleur-de-lis), which historically symbolised purity, light, and above all, royal power. The back lacing is not only an authentic element but also the most practical way to adjust the stiff leather to the volume of your leg and layers of clothing.
Material, Sole, and Proper Putting On
The boots are carefully sewn from high-quality cowhide in a beautiful two-tone design, where the dark brown base contrasts with lighter leather reinforcements and decorations. A major benefit of this model is the massive rubber sole with a pronounced anti-slip tread. Although it represents a slight concession from historical accuracy, it radically reduces the risk of a fatal slip on wet grass or in mud, which you will immensely appreciate in battle or at a LARP.
If you do not have overly large calves, these boots can be put on using only mild force without having to completely loosen the lacing. When putting them on, however, never pull on the decorative cuff, as you could damage the seams or the delicate decorations! Always pull the boot on by grasping the sturdy main part of the shaft.
Leather Care and Custom Adjustments
From the factory, the footwear is treated with a beeswax balm that impregnates, softens, and tints it to a slightly darker shade. To ensure the leather retains its long lifespan and flexibility, you must regularly nourish it with waxes, oils, or standard shoe polish, which additionally allows you to easily cover any scuffs from regular wear. Under no circumstances should you dry the footwear near a direct heat source, such as an open fire or a radiator, as the leather would irreversibly harden and crack.
The height of this exclusive model is fixed at approximately 35 cm (13.8 in) and cannot be changed. If you wear orthotic insoles and choose the custom-made variant (where the foot shape and calf circumference are tailored), it is absolutely necessary to send them to us in advance. They will be precisely and functionally built directly into the footwear, ensuring the boots provide you with the best possible support.
