Thor Goblet – Viking Chalice with Stainless Steel Insert
Design Worthy of the Thunderer
The body of the goblet is made of durable polyresin mixed with basalt, giving it the appearance and cool touch of metal or stone. The surface is hand-painted with an emphasis on the patina of old bronze. The dominant feature is the relief of Thor's face, depicted here with a winged helmet—an iconic (though historically romanticised) attribute. The relief is framed by intricate Celtic knots and runic motifs that wind down the stem to the base, which bears the inscription "THOR".
Practicality First
Although it looks like a museum exhibit, this goblet is fully functional. Inside, it hides a removable insert made of food-grade stainless steel. This offers several advantages:
- You can drink any beverage (wine, beer, hot mead) without the risk of a metallic aftertaste or damage to the resin.
- Stainless steel is easy to maintain and hygienic.
- The insert helps maintain the temperature of your drink.
Historical Insight: Thor and His Helmet
In Norse mythology, Thor was the son of Odin and the protector of Asgard and Midgard (the world of humans). He was known for his strength and his magical hammer, Mjölnir. Interestingly, the famous winged helmet that Thor wears on this goblet does not appear in original Viking archaeological finds. This visual style was popularised by artists in the 19th century (especially in connection with Wagner's operas). However, today this image of the Thunder God is an absolute classic in pop culture.
Care Instructions
To ensure this goblet lasts for ages, please follow these instructions:
- Washing: Always remove the stainless steel insert before washing. Only this metal part is dishwasher safe.
- Goblet Body: Wash the decorative resin part by hand only, ideally with lukewarm water. Avoid prolonged soaking and do not use chemical cleaners that could damage the hand-painted finish.
- Drying: Allow both parts to dry thoroughly before reassembling to prevent mould from forming in the space between them.
For the perfect effect on your table, we recommend pairing this goblet with its counterpart—the Odin Goblet—to create a divine set.
