The Elegance of European Courts in the High Baroque
The historical inspiration for this spectacular dress falls within the opulent period of the High Baroque, around the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. In this era, court fashion across Europe was characterised by heavier materials with rich patterns, deep square necklines, and heavily layered skirts. Noblewomen of the time favoured opulence to demonstrate their wealth and social status.
The dress is meticulously sewn from high-quality cotton fabric featuring a beautiful gobelin (tapestry) pattern. The bodice elegantly tapers to a slight point at the front, which visually elongates and slims the silhouette. The overskirt is deliberately left open at the front to reveal a contrasting underskirt (shown in green in the photographs). The sleeves are short and luxuriously finished with wide bell cuffs and delicate white lace, a highly popular stylistic element amongst the French and English aristocracy of the period.

Care of the Historical Gown and Safety Instructions
Due to the use of decorative brocade containing metal fibres and cotton with a gobelin motif, we strongly advise entrusting this dress exclusively to a professional dry cleaner. Washing at home in a washing machine could irreversibly damage the fabric structure and the delicate lace cuffs. Tumble drying is completely unsuitable. If ironing is necessary, do so very carefully on the lowest setting, ideally through a pressing cloth and on the reverse side. As this is a garment made from natural textiles, avoid close proximity to open flames (historical candles, fireplaces, torches) to prevent the risk of ignition. Always follow the attached cleaning and maintenance instructions.
Recommended Accessories for the Dress
To achieve the absolutely perfect and historically accurate silhouette of a High Baroque lady, we highly recommend wearing historical side padding (panniers) and a laced corset under the dress. A folding fan, delicate pearl jewellery, period leather shoes with a slight heel, and an elegant women's tricorn hat decorated with ostrich feathers also complement the dress wonderfully.
