We designed this costume to provide you with maximum freedom of movement, whether you are climbing the rigging or drawing your cutlass during a boarding action. The shirt stands out with its wide sleeves finished with delicate lace, giving your persona a touch of aristocratic swagger typical of successful corsairs. The waistcoat (vest) is made of moleskin, a highly durable, heavy cotton fabric with a soft pile that feels like suede—historically prized for its toughness and warmth. The knee breeches feature a classic cut that looks excellent when paired with high boots or woollen stockings.

Pirate attire in the 18th century was not just about fashion; it was about practicality and a display of wealth. Pirates often wore "prize" clothing—items stolen from the luxury luggage of wealthy passengers. The lace cuffs on the shirt, as seen on this model, were a symbol of high status during that period. Interestingly, sailors often modified their clothes to ensure they did not get caught in the ship's rigging, which is why trousers were shorter and shirts were loose. How to Care for Your Costume

To ensure this ensemble serves you for many years and maintains its appearance, proper care is essential. Due to the cotton composition and especially the delicate lace on the shirt, hand washing in lukewarm water with a mild detergent is ideal. If using a washing machine, choose a delicate cycle at a maximum of 86°F (30°C). Never tumble dry the moleskin waistcoat, as this can damage the fabric texture and cause shrinkage. Always iron inside out on a medium heat setting.

Safety and Recommendations

When wearing the costume, be mindful that the loose lace sleeves and long waistcoat tails can easily snag on protruding objects, weapons, or field equipment. Exercise caution when near open flames. Please note that the accessories shown in the photograph, such as the tricorne hat, leather baldric, sword, footwear, jewelry, and wicker flasks, are not included in the package.

We recommend adding a high-quality leather baldric to carry your sabre and woollen stockings to complete the historical silhouette of your legs.
