History: The Legacy of Oseberg

The design is directly inspired by artifacts found in the Oseberg ship burial in Norway (9th century), one of the most significant Viking Age archaeological sites. Such bowls served the Norse people as portable light sources in their longhouses and tents. While they traditionally burned animal fats or fish oil, this replica allows you to enjoy a clean and atmospheric flame using modern lamp oil or wood today. It is an essential piece for any reenactor looking for genuine historical flair.

Maintenance and Safety Instructions

To ensure your tripod stays in top condition for years to come, please follow these guidelines:

  • Rust Protection: Since steel is prone to rust, store the bowl in a dry place and regularly wipe it with a cloth and a bit of cooking oil.
  • Cleaning: Soot and ash can easily be removed with a dry brush. Do not clean in a dishwasher.
  • Fire Safety: The metal becomes extremely hot during use. Never touch the bowl with bare hands while a fire is burning. Always place it on a fireproof surface and never leave it unattended.
  • Ventilation: Always ensure proper air circulation when using an open flame inside tents to prevent carbon monoxide buildup.
