Natural Air Conditioning and Comfort

Why choose linen? Because no other historical material handles heat so well. On hot days, it cools and wicks sweat away from the body; in cooler weather, it serves as a perfect insulating base layer under woollen clothes. The fabric has a medium weight, so it is strong enough to withstand rough handling but softens beautifully over time with wear.

The tunic features a simple, functional "T" cut with long sleeves and a V-neck, making it easy to put on. You can wear it loose for the relaxed look of a craftsman, or cinch it with a belt (not included) and head into battle as a warrior.

Historical Insight: Linen as a Symbol of Cleanliness

In the Viking Age and Early Middle Ages, linen (derived from the stalks of the flax plant) was a highly valued commodity. Its production was labour-intensive, and therefore linen clothing was often a sign of status. Archaeological finds from major trade centres like Birka or Hedeby show that linen tunics were often worn as undergarments (shifts) directly against the skin because linen was easier to wash and more pleasant to the touch than scratchy wool. Clean linen clothing was a symbol of personal hygiene and dignity.

Care for Your Linen Tunic

Linen is durable but deserves the right care to last you for years:

  • Washing: Machine wash at 40°C (104°F) on a gentle cycle. Use mild detergents.
  • Drying: Never tumble dry! Hang the tunic or lay it flat in the shade. Direct sunlight can fade the colour over time.
  • Ironing: Linen naturally wrinkles, which is part of its character. If you want to iron the tunic, do so while the fabric is still slightly damp, or use steam.
  • Warning: Do not use bleach.

Important Note

The belt, pouch, knife, sword, or any other accessories shown in the photos are not included. Due to the natural origin of the material, the fabric structure and colour shade may vary slightly from piece to piece, which is a mark of authenticity.
