Viking Leather Belt "Midgard Serpent", Black

How to Properly Wear a Long Viking Belt

This type of long belt is worn in a specific, historically inspired way that not only looks great but is also functional. The freely hanging end does not impede movement and also serves as a striking decorative element. The process is simple:

  1. Pass the belt through the buckle and fasten it to the desired length.
  2. Tuck the free end of the belt underneath the already fastened part of the belt from below.
  3. Pull the end of the belt downwards through the loop you've just created.
  4. Gently tighten the knot and let the end of the belt hang freely along your leg, as shown in the photos.

A Legend You Can Wear on Your Belt

The buckle and chape are not just ordinary decorations. Their design depicts the endless loops of Jörmungandr, the Midgard Serpent – one of the most powerful creatures in Norse mythology. This offspring of the god Loki was so enormous that he could encircle the entire world of men and bite his own tail. For the Vikings, symbols like Jörmungandr or Thor's hammer were powerful amulets meant to bring strength, protection in battle, and ward off evil. By wearing this belt, you take on a part of the mythological power and legacy of the ancient sagas.

Quality You Can Rely On

The foundation of the belt is honest, approximately 3 mm thick full-grain buffalo leather. This is the highest quality and most durable layer of hide, which develops a unique patina over time and will serve you for many years. Unlike belts made from bonded or sanded leather, it does not break or tear. The buckle and chape are cast from solid brass, which guarantees high strength. The Mythrojan® brand ensures that this belt will meet even the most demanding requirements for durability and historical appearance.

How to Choose the Right Size

Measure your waist circumference over your garment (tunic, dress) that you will most often wear the belt with, and select the most suitable size from the table, which will ensure you have a sufficiently long free end.

Measurements Size 40" (101 cm) Size 50" (127 cm) Size 60" (152 cm) Size 70" (178 cm)

Caring for Your New Belt

  • Protect the belt from prolonged exposure to water. If it gets wet, let it air dry at room temperature – never dry it near a direct heat source (radiator, fire).
  • Occasionally treat it with a leather care product (conditioner, wax, or balm) to keep it supple and prevent it from cracking.
  • The brass parts may develop a natural patina over time. If you prefer a shiny look, you can easily polish them with a cloth using a brass cleaning product.
