Narrow belts, often less than 2 centimetres (0.8 inches) wide, were the absolute standard in Scandinavia during the 9th and 10th centuries for both men and women. A belt was vital for people of that era, as period tunics and dresses lacked pockets. The seax (combat knife), pouch, fire striker, and various daily necessities were suspended directly from it. The buckle on this model is hand-sewn to the leather using strong linen thread, which perfectly reflects period craftsmanship methods. The engraved perimeter groove on the strap adds a subtle yet elegant touch to the belt's appearance.

Proper Wearing and Tying of a Medieval Belt

The length of 150 cm (59 inches) is no accident – it serves to create the traditional medieval knot. You simply fasten the belt at the buckle, pass the long free end underneath the fastened strap from the bottom up, and thread it down through the resulting loop along your leg. To ensure the belt fits your physique perfectly over any number of clothing layers (from a thin linen tunic to a thick padded coat), we intentionally supply it without pre-punched holes. You can easily punch the holes exactly where you truly need them using a leather hole punch.

Proper Genuine Leather Care Instructions

This product is made of genuine cowhide leather with a respectable thickness of nearly 4 mm (0.15 inches). Minor imperfections and differences in surface texture are natural properties of this material and make each piece unique. To ensure the leather maintains its long-term stability, strength, and flexibility, treat it at least once a season with a high-quality leather balm containing beeswax. Never dry the leather near a direct heat source, such as a radiator or the flames of a campfire, as it could harden and crack.
