Hand-Sewn Leather Dagger Scabbard With Cross Lacing
Historical Context And Proper Dagger Carrying
Carrying a dagger was an absolute necessity in the Middle Ages and early modern period for defence, everyday work, and as a badge of status. While only the nobility could afford ornate swords, a dagger was rarely missing from the belt of any free man. Original historical scabbards often consisted of a wooden core covered in leather and lined with animal fur. The fat from the fur preserved the blade against rust and simultaneously mechanically fixed the dagger in the scabbard so it wouldn't fall out. Over time, scabbards began to be protected with metal fittings or at least reinforced leather on the chape (the tip) to prevent them from wearing through. This all-leather replica represents a popular, more affordable, and highly functional type of scabbard that is ideal for LARP, re-enactment, and historical fencing. Important warning: If you use the scabbard for a sharp weapon, exercise extreme caution so as not to cut through the soft leather when drawing quickly. Always insert the dagger into the scabbard smoothly and straight.

Custom Made Exactly For Your Weapon
For the scabbard to serve its purpose perfectly, it is always custom-made to measure for a specific dagger. How does it work? If you order a dagger from us along with the scabbard, we will automatically sew the scabbard to fit it. If you already have the dagger at home, just carefully fill out our measurement chart for scabbards after completing your order. This is the only way we can guarantee that the weapon won't rattle in the scabbard, nor will it be too hard to insert.
Leather Equipment Care
To ensure the leather serves you for many years, doesn't dry out, and doesn't crack, treat it regularly (ideally after every demanding outdoor event) with a high-quality leather balm containing beeswax or a special leather oil. If the scabbard gets wet, never dry it on a radiator, near a fire, or in harsh sunlight. Let it dry naturally, ideally with a dummy dagger inserted (not a sharp one, which could rust) so it keeps its shape.
Recommended Accessories
To accompany this hand-sewn scabbard, we highly recommend purchasing a high-quality medieval dagger (e.g., a rondel or bollock dagger) and a sturdy leather belt with a brass buckle, from which you can stylishly and safely suspend the scabbard.
