16th Century Short Halberd with Ash Shaft
Step onto the Renaissance battlefield with this faithful recreation of a 16th-century European halberd. Prized by infantrymen and guards alike for its adaptability, the halberd is often considered the most versatile of all polearms. This piece combines the chopping power of an axe, the thrusting capability of a spear, and the tactical utility of a rear fluke. The head is individually hand-forged from high-carbon steel, ensuring durability and an authentic feel. The shaft is crafted from solid Ash wood, historically the material of choice for weapon hafts due to its shock absorption and resilience. Measuring just over 48 inches, this is a shorter, more agile variant, perfect for close-quarters combat simulations or living history displays. Further product information ...

Design and Historical Usage
This reproduction captures the elegance and lethality of originals found in museum collections. The multi-functional head allowed soldiers to:
- Thrust: Using the top spike to pierce armor or hold cavalry at bay.
- Cleave: Using the crescent axe blade for powerful strikes.
- Hook: Using the rear spike to unhorse riders or pull down enemy shields.
Unlike the massive 2-meter pike-halberds, this shorter length suggests use in trench warfare, naval boarding actions, or interior guard duty. The blackened steel finish gives it a rugged, battle-worn aesthetic.
Care Instructions
The head is made of high-carbon steel, which requires maintenance to prevent rust. Always wipe the metal clean with a dry cloth after handling to remove oils and moisture. Apply a light coat of oil (such as mineral oil or gun oil) before storage. The Ash wood shaft should be treated occasionally with wood conditioner or linseed oil to prevent cracking and maintain its finish.
