Sword class D according to the classification of weapons for fencing, product without warranty! This sword is designed purely for decorative purposes. It is NOT built for combat, reenactment fighting, or cutting tests. The blade is not tempered for impact and may bend or break if used improperly. 

Description and History

The most striking feature of this sword is its distinctive guard. Crafted from solid brass, the arms slope downwards towards the blade and terminate in iconic quatrefoils (four-leaf clover shapes). This design is the hallmark of a true Claymore. The centre of the guard features langets extending down the blade, a detail often found on historical originals.

The blade is made of high carbon steel (not stainless) and features a long fuller that reduces weight without compromising the sword's imposing look. The wooden grip is wrapped in black leather for a secure hold and is finished with a globular brass pommel. The long grip allows for comfortable two-handed use, which was essential historically for breaking through enemy pike formations. Please note that this sword is supplied without a scabbard.

Historical Context: The name Claymore comes from the Gaelic claidheamh-mòr, meaning simply "great sword". These weapons saw their golden age between roughly 1400 and 1700. They were the primary weapon of the Highland clans in their feuds and wars against the English.

Care Instructions

Even though this is a display piece, proper care will keep it looking pristine:

• Steel: The blade can rust. Oil it regularly with a suitable gun oil (e.g., WD-40 or Ballistol). Avoid touching the blade with bare hands as sweat accelerates corrosion.
• Brass: The fittings may tarnish over time. Use a metal polish if you prefer a bright, golden shine.
• Leather: Treat the grip occasionally with leather conditioner to prevent cracking.
