Historically Faithful Cut for Freedom of Movement

This medieval tunic differs from regular clothing with its well-designed cut, which is based on Nordic garments from the 8th–11th centuries. It is designed to not restrict you in any situation, whether you are preparing for the shield wall or just walking through the forest.

• Panel Construction: The body of the tunic is assembled from rectangular panels of fabric, which corresponds to historical methods that saved material.
• Side Gores: Triangular pieces of fabric are sewn into the sides, widening the lower hem. This gives you plenty of room for your legs when walking, running, or riding.
• Underarm Gussets: Small diamond-shaped pieces are sewn under the arms. This key detail allows for a full range of arm motion, which is essential for swordsmanship and any kind of work.
• V-Neck: The simple but functional neckline makes it easy to put on and is a typical feature of Nordic tunics.

Comfortable and Durable Material

The tunic is made from 100% cotton chambray. This fabric is not only strong and wear-resistant but also pleasantly soft and breathable. Its subtle heathered (melange) texture also gives the garment an authentic, period look reminiscent of coarser woollen or linen fabrics.

Thanks to its simplicity and universal cut, the "Bjorn" tunic is incredibly versatile. You can wear it loose or cinch it with a belt for a more defined silhouette. It is the ideal foundation for a costume as a:

The Tunic in the Viking Age

The tunic, called kyrtill in Old Norse, was the basic male garment throughout the Viking Age. It was worn by everyone—from farmers and traders to jarls and kings. Social status was primarily shown through the quality and colour of the fabric, or through decorations like woven or embroidered trims. However, this simple and functional cut remained practically unchanged for centuries.

Care Instructions

• Wash inside out with similar colours, ideally on a gentle cycle with cold water (up to 30°C / 86°F).
• Do not use bleach or harsh detergents.
• Do not tumble dry, as it may shrink. Hang to dry in the air, ideally in the shade.
• Iron on a low heat setting, preferably while slightly damp or through a cloth.
