After all, it's always easier to wash or replace an apron than an entire costume or your favourite dress.

The Apron Through the Ages

Aprons are a garment with a rich history. For centuries, they were an indispensable part of the daily attire for women across all social classes, as well as for men in certain professions (e.g., blacksmiths, butchers, cooks). Their primary function was to protect more expensive outer clothing from wear and tear during work. The material, colour, and decoration of an apron could often indicate the social status, profession, or marital status of the wearer. Simple, undyed canvas aprons, like this natural version, were typical for the working class, while wealthier townswomen could afford aprons made of finer fabrics, adorned with embroidery or lace, which they also wore as part of their formal attire.

A Little Piece of History

Did you know that in some European regions, the apron, especially how it was tied, could be a symbol of a woman's marital status? For example, married women might tie their aprons differently than unmarried girls. The colour of the apron could also play a role – white aprons were often associated with cleanliness and festive occasions, while coloured ones, like this red version, could be part of a more festive but still functional outfit.

How to Care for Your Apron to Ensure It Lasts

To keep your cotton apron looking beautiful and functional for as long as possible, we recommend following these care instructions:

  • Washing: Machine wash on a gentle cycle at a maximum temperature of 40°C (104°F). We recommend washing with similar colours to prevent accidental staining (especially with the red version during the first few washes).
  • Drying: Cotton can be tumble-dried, but for a longer lifespan and fewer wrinkles, we recommend line-drying. If you use a dryer, select a low heat setting.
  • Ironing: Iron at a low to medium temperature suitable for cotton (usually up to 150°C or 300°F).
  • Bleaching: We do not recommend using bleach on the coloured versions. For the natural (ecru) version, bleach may be used, but it might slightly alter the shade and affect the lifespan of the fibres.

With this quality apron from Mythrojan, your costume will be complete, and your clothes will stay safe. Enjoy your events to the fullest and without a worry!
