Katanakake table stand for 3 samurai swords - Outlet
Are you the proud owner of traditional Japanese blades and looking for the proper throne for them? This elegant, high-gloss black stand, traditionally known as a katanakake, will turn your collection into a true centrepiece of the room. It is specifically designed to accommodate exactly three weapons – ideally a complete samurai daisho set along with a short tanto dagger. Of course, you can also use it for your wooden practice swords (bokken). Thanks to its clever demountable design, connected by elegant brass-headed screws, the stand is easy to assemble and disassemble. The high-gloss black lacquer evokes the traditional Japanese urushi technique, adding an unmistakable touch of the Far East to your interior. Further product information ...
Black Lacquered Katanakake Table Display Stand for Three Samurai Swords
Traditional Japanese Sword Display Etiquette
Displaying Japanese swords is governed by strict rules rooted in centuries of tradition and respect for the weapon. Swords (katana and wakizashi) are always placed on the katanakake while in their scabbards (saya) and with the curve of the blade pointing upwards. This method of placement prevents the sensitive, razor-sharp edge inside the scabbard from resting on the wood and becoming dull. Furthermore, in times of peace, the sword is positioned so that the hilt (tsuka) points to the left. This symbolises peaceful intentions, as it is much more difficult and slower for a right-handed person to draw a sword stored with the hilt on the left. Shorter weapons like the wakizashi or tanto are traditionally placed on the upper tiers, while the primary katana rests below, or vice versa depending on the specific sword school. Nevertheless, a three-tier stand provides the perfect space for an entire set.
Protection for Your Weapons and Furniture
The creator of this display stand primarily considered the safety of your valuable exhibits. All three pairs of milled grooves (the resting cradles for the swords) are carefully lined with soft felt. Therefore, you do not have to worry in the slightest about scratching the flawless lacquer on your scabbard (saya) when placing the sword down. The same felt pads are applied to the bottom feet of the stand, meaning you can confidently place it on a luxurious glass display cabinet or an antique wooden table without risking any scratches. The wide base ensures perfect stability, even when fully loaded with heavier swords.
Assembly and Care of the Lacquered Wood
The stand is delivered disassembled for easier and safer transport. You do not need any complex tools to put it together – the side panels and the central connecting brace are secured together using sturdy screws with brass-coloured heads, which also serve as a nice visual detail. The surface of the stand features a high-gloss lacquer finish. To maintain it, a dry, very soft microfibre cloth for dusting is perfectly sufficient. Absolutely avoid using chemical cleaners, solvents, or rough paper towels, which could irreversibly scratch or dull the beautifully glossy surface.
