Traditional Frontier Bowie Knife with Polished Pakkawood Handle
Historical Context of the Bowie Knife
The Bowie knife is an absolute legend of the Wild West that originated in the first half of the 19th century. It is named after Colonel James Bowie, renowned for his legendary Sandbar Fight in 1827. The typical feature of this knife is the massive clip point blade and a distinct double-sided guard. Originally, it served as an uncompromising backup weapon and heavy work tool for hunters, settlers, and soldiers on the unpredictable American frontier. Today, it is a universal symbol of bushcraft and wilderness survival.
Use and Safety
The blade is made of 420 stainless steel. Based on its design and materials, this is a knife suitable for common camp activities, cutting branches, preparing food, or as a reliable wilderness survival tool. Given the sharp blade, I must warn you to handle the knife with the utmost caution. For safety reasons, the weapon is not intended for historical contact fencing and man-to-man combat. Also, do not use the knife as a pry bar or a throwing weapon, which could cause structural damage. When carrying, always ensure the knife is safely secured with the retaining strap in the supplied nylon sheath.
Blade and Handle Care
The 420 stainless steel is highly resistant to corrosion, making the maintenance of the knife very straightforward. After use in the field, especially if the knife comes into contact with acidic foods, moisture, or blood, we recommend rinsing the blade and wiping it dry with a cotton cloth. The handle is made of Pakkawood, which is a special resin-impregnated composite material. Although it is highly resistant to water and mechanical damage, do not submerge the handle in liquids for prolonged periods or wash it in a dishwasher. Occasional lubrication of the blade with a light gun oil will prolong its perfect, shiny appearance.
Recommended Accessories
For this bushcraft knife, we recommend purchasing a high-quality pocket sharpener or whetstone from our range to keep the blade perfectly sharp at all times, even in field conditions.
