Brown Late Gothic Leather Boots with Leaf Dagging and Back Lacing
Practical Use and Historical Context
These tall boots are inspired by the European fashion of the Late Gothic period (15th century). Pointed footwear, the so-called poulaines or crakows, was typical for this era. While extremely long toes were often worn at court, this model features a more practical toe, adapted for normal walking and movement in the field. A prominent fashion element here is the wide folded cuff finished with dagging shaped like oak leaves. This method of decorating the edges of fabrics and leather was a massive hit in Europe at the time. Furthermore, the back lacing allowed the footwear to be pulled tightly around the calf, creating the desirable narrow and elegant silhouette of the leg.
Material and Construction
The boots are honestly crafted from high-quality genuine cowhide leather with a matte brown finish. The back of the calf is equipped with holes for threading leather laces, allowing you to perfectly adjust the footwear to the anatomy of your leg. A special feature of this model is the modern construction of the sole. It is made of a lightweight synthetic material (designated by the manufacturer as styropor / microporous shock-absorbing rubber). Thanks to this choice, the boot is very light despite its size, absorbs shocks well when walking on harder surfaces, and does not let ground moisture through.

Sizes and Custom Tailoring
These historical boots are standardly available in regular European (EU) sizes. If you choose the custom-made option, the boots are sewn exactly according to your specified body proportions. If you are considering using your own orthopaedic insoles, it is absolutely essential to physically send these insoles to us before production begins. The shoemaker will permanently and precisely fit them into the shoes so that the boots fit you absolutely perfectly and your walking remains healthy and comfortable.
Leather Footwear Care
From the workshop, the leather is treated with a high-quality balm containing genuine beeswax. The balm effectively softens the material, waterproofs it against moisture, and gives it a characteristic richer shade. To ensure a long lifespan for the footwear, regularly clean off heavy dirt with a damp cloth. After drying completely at room temperature, apply another layer of balm or conditioner to the leather. You can also use standard brown shoe polish, which is excellent for covering scuffs from weapons and minor damage on the toes.
Safety and Precautions
Although the lightweight material sole has good shock-absorbing properties, it can be unpleasantly slippery on wet grass, in mud, on wet stones, or on modern smooth floors. Exercise heightened caution when moving in such environments to prevent falls. Never dry the boots in close proximity to an open campfire, on hot stoves, or directly on a radiator. Extreme heat will irreversibly damage both the natural leather and the synthetic sole – the leather will harden and crack, and the sole may deform.
