Who Was Alfred Hutton?
Captain Alfred Hutton (1839–1910) was a British officer, fencer, and author. He is considered one of the founding fathers of the modern historical fencing (HEMA) movement. Hutton was a great proponent of reviving old fencing systems while also seeking to modernise the military swordsmanship of his time. His works, such as "Cold Steel" (1889), are still studied by fencers around the world today. This blade is designed in the spirit of his philosophy – practical, functional, and safe for practice.

Care for Your Carbon Steel Blade
Although 9260 steel is very resilient, it is still carbon steel and susceptible to rust. To ensure your blade lasts as long as possible, follow these guidelines:
- Wipe the blade dry thoroughly after each use, especially if it has come into contact with sweat. Human sweat is very corrosive.
- Regularly conserve the blade with a thin layer of oil (e.g., Ballistol or another mineral oil).
- Store the blade in a dry environment. Do not leave it in a damp scabbard for extended periods.
What to Avoid
This blade is designed for fencing practice and blade-on-blade contact. However, it is not indestructible.
- Do not use the blade to chop at hard objects (wood, stone, metal shield edges).
- Avoid extreme bending or prying, which could lead to permanent deformation or breakage.
- Even though the blade has a rounded tip, always use appropriate protective gear during fencing (mask, gloves, fencing jacket). Safety first!
