Medieval Single-Handed Sword Wyot – 14th Century Style Arming Sword

A Faithful Companion for Your Historical Costume

This sword is not just a piece of metal; it is a gateway to history. Its construction corresponds to weapons used in Europe roughly during the 14th and 15th centuries. The hilt is wrapped in genuine leather and features distinct risers (ridges) that not only look good but also ensure a firmer grip, which you will appreciate when carrying the sword in your hand for longer periods. The slightly curved guard adds elegance to the sword, and the wheel-shaped pommel balances the weapon visually.

Since the manufacturer does not provide a warranty against blade breakage during fencing clashes, we sell this sword exclusively as a decorative or costume accessory. It is ideal for:

  • Completing your costume for historical festivals and parades.
  • Theatre performances and "living history" displays (non-combat).
  • LARP and cosplay where an authentic look is crucial.
  • Stylish wall decoration for your study or "man cave".

A Glimpse into History: The Sword as a Status Symbol

From a typological perspective (according to Oakeshott), this sword resembles Type XVIII or modifications of Type XII, which were popular during the Hundred Years' War. At that time, armour was becoming more resistant, so sword blades tapered to a sharp point to penetrate mail or find gaps in plate armour. A single-handed sword like the Wyot was a sidearm – a knight usually drew it only after his lance had broken, or in foot combat combined with a shield or buckler. The name "Wyot" refers to an old English form of the name Wyatt, evoking the era of English longbowmen and French knights.

Care and Maintenance

To ensure the Wyot sword brings you joy for years to come and does not rust, it requires a little care. Since the blade is forged from carbon steel, it is susceptible to corrosion.

  • Preservation: Wipe the blade with a dry cloth after every touch with bare hands and oil it lightly. Human sweat is acidic and can leave rust marks on the steel. You can use preservation oil (e.g., WD-40, Ballistol) or even ordinary sewing machine oil.
  • Storage: Store the sword in a dry place. Do not leave it permanently in a leather scabbard, as leather can absorb moisture from the air and cause the blade to rust.
  • Safety and Usage: Although the edge is approx. 1 mm thick (not sharp like a knife), the point can be sharp. Never strike hard objects with the sword (trees, concrete, other weapons). The construction is not designed for the impact of stage combat or historical fencing (HEMA); blade loosening or breakage could cause injury to you or others.

For a complete look, we recommend acquiring a suitable belt frog or a leather scabbard for the sword, which will protect the blade during transport and add the finishing touch to your costume.
