Damascus Folding Knife Snakewood with Rose Pattern and 8CR13 MoV Core

Harmony of Steel and Precious Wood

This knife is a masterpiece of cutlery craftsmanship where functionality meets art. The blade features a sandwich construction. The cutting core is made of proven 8CR13 MoV stainless steel, known for its edge retention and ease of sharpening. This core is protected on the sides by 71 layers of folded steel. The resulting Rose pattern is created through a complex process of twisting and forging the Damascus layers, making each knife unique.

The handle scales are made of Snakewood (also known as Letterwood or Amourette). It is one of the most expensive and hardest woods in the world, originating from the Brosimum guianense tree in South America. The wood is characterized by its reddish-brown colour with dark patches resembling snakeskin. Thanks to its high density, it is extremely durable and polishes to a beautiful lustre.

Safety is ensured by a classic Backlock mechanism. The decorated spring on the spine reliably locks the blade in the open position and adds an aesthetic touch. The knife does not have a belt clip, underlining its character as a "gentleman's folder" – designed to be carried loosely in a pocket, vest, or leather pouch.

Historical Context: The Magic of Damascus

The history of Damascus steel dates back thousands of years. The original "true" Damascus (Wootz) came from India and the Middle East and was legendary for its ability to cut through a rifle barrel or a silk scarf floating in the air. Today, we use the term "Damascus" for pattern-welded steel, a technique perfected in Europe by the Celts and later by the masters of Solingen. The purpose was originally to combine hard (brittle) steel for the edge with soft (tough) steel to prevent breakage. In this knife, the layering serves primarily an aesthetic function, while the modern stainless core ensures top cutting performance without the high maintenance required by historical carbon steels.

Care and Maintenance

To ensure this knife serves you well for years and the wood remains beautiful, please follow these guidelines:

  • Wood Care: Snakewood is hard, but as a natural material, it reacts to humidity. Occasionally treat the scales with linseed oil, tung oil, or a special wood wax to prevent drying and cracking.
  • Cleaning: Although the steel is stainless, the Damascus structure has microscopic textures. Rinse and thoroughly dry the knife after cutting acidic foods (lemon, onion) or exposure to moisture. Lightly oil the blade (e.g., with gun oil or camellia oil).
  • Usage: This is a cutting tool. Never use it as a pry bar, screwdriver, or for throwing. This could chip the edge or damage the locking mechanism.
  • Washing: Never wash the knife in a dishwasher! Aggressive salts and hot steam would ruin both the wooden handle and the edge.

Note: As wood is a natural material, the grain may vary slightly from the product photos. Each knife is an original.
