Heavy blows from two-handed axes or heavy maces in full-contact sports could deform the steel and lead to severe injury. For comfortable wear and proper shock absorption, we highly recommend wearing a suitable underlying layer under the shield, such as a padded gambeson or a padded arm sleeve.

• Corrosion Protection: Thoroughly wipe the shield with a dry cloth after every battle or training session, especially if exposed to rain or moisture.
• Oil Preservation: Regularly treat the blued surface with a thin layer of mineral or gun oil (such as Ballistol) to seal the metal against atmospheric moisture.
• Leather and Wood Care: Periodically treat the leather strap with a beeswax-based leather conditioner to prevent it from becoming brittle. Protect the wooden handle from prolonged exposure to water.
