This product is named in honour of Sir Thomas Erpingham, a legendary English commander who left an indelible mark on history during the famous Battle of Agincourt in 1415. The original historical models of this weapon date back precisely to the period from the 14th to the 16th century. The rondel dagger, also known simply as a "rondel", was worn suspended in a sheath at the belt. It was not merely a tool for everyday use, but primarily a feared backup weapon of knights, nobility, and common soldiers alike. Its main purpose was close combat against heavily armoured opponents. Thanks to its narrow shape and triangular profile, the blade could penetrate the weak points in plate armour, such as the visors of helmets, armpit gaps, or mail gussets. Its deadly efficiency is also evidenced by archaeological finds and historical sources, which prove that the fatal blow to the English King Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485 was struck precisely with a rondel dagger.

Construction, Materials, and Weapon Design

The blade of this replica is crafted from high-quality 1065 carbon steel. It features a long and exceptionally slender shape that tapers sharply to a point. The typical triangular cross-section provides the blade with extreme structural strength and resistance to bending. To prevent reflections and partially protect against rust, the blade has been deeply blackened. The richly decorated handle is sure to catch the eye. The grip body, made of dark hardwood, is ergonomically shaped with a pronounced central ring for a firm and secure hold. The wood surface is precisely studded with small brass pins forming an elegant diamond pattern. Safety and hand support during a thrust are ensured by the two characteristic circular metal guards (rondels), which are finished in matte black. To protect the dagger, a black leather scabbard with a blackened metal throat and chape is included. The scabbard is fitted with a sturdy leather cord for easy attachment to a belt.

To ensure the weapon serves you as long as possible and retains its flawless appearance, it requires proper care. Carbon steel is susceptible to rust, so it is essential to wipe the blade thoroughly dry after any contact with moisture or human sweat and treat it with a thin layer of high-quality gun oil. We recommend occasionally rubbing the wooden handle with linseed oil or treating it with beeswax. Never store the dagger inside the leather scabbard for long periods, as leather can absorb atmospheric moisture and cause the steel to rust.
