Universal Leather Frog for Axe, Dagger, or Sword

A Universal Holder for Your Favourite Weapon, Robust Construction and Smart Adjustability

The base consists of a solid backplate made from approximately 3-3.3 mm thick buffalo leather, to which two wide belt loops are securely riveted. The main advantage of this frog is its two adjustable straps, each fitted with an elegant oval buckle made of solid brass. With these, you can firmly and securely grip an axe handle, or the scabbard of a dagger or sword with a diameter of 3 to 5 cm. Your weapon will sit snugly in the holder, preventing unnecessary movement.

For Right-Handers and Left-Handers

We think of all warriors. You can purchase this frog in two versions, which differ in the angle of the loops to ensure an optimal carrying position for your weapon:

  • Right-Handed Version: Worn on the left hip for a comfortable draw with the right hand.
  • Left-Handed Version: Worn on the right hip for an easy cross-draw with the left hand.

When ordering, be sure to select the version that perfectly matches your fighting style.

Practical Weapon Carrying in History

In addition to a primary weapon like a longsword or spear, warriors often carried a secondary weapon—a shorter sword, a dagger, or a battle axe. Various types of hangers and loops, commonly known as "frogs," were used for these weapons. The goal was always to position the weapon so it was easily accessible but did not interfere with movement, riding a horse, or working. Hangers that allowed for an angled carry were especially popular because they kept the weapon clear of the legs.

Interesting Fact: The Axe as a Universal Tool

In the Middle Ages, the battle axe was not just a weapon of the Vikings. It was a common and universal piece of equipment throughout Europe. For less affluent soldiers and peasants, it was often the only weapon available, as it also served as an everyday tool for woodworking. Carrying it practically on a belt, much like in this frog, was therefore an absolute necessity.

Instructions for Use and Care

Using it is simple. Slide the frog onto a belt up to 6.5 cm (2.5 in) wide using the loops. Then, insert the axe handle or the scabbard of your dagger and tighten it firmly with the two buckled straps. To preserve the beauty and durability of the leather, protect it from prolonged moisture and occasionally treat it with a leather care product (wax or balm).
