Sword Stand "Daimyo" – Single Tier – Walnut Veneer
Elegance and Protection Combined
Whether you own a sharp Katana, a practice Iaito, a wooden Bokken, or perhaps a European falchion, this stand is ready. A key feature is the velvet lining in the contact areas (rests). This protects the lacquered scabbard (saya) of your sword from scratches and scuffs during handling. The stand is delivered flat-packed, making transport easy. Assembly is intuitive and can be done in moments by screwing the parts together. Since wood is a natural material that constantly moves, in rare cases, the stand may not sit 100% flush on a perfectly flat surface. If it wobbles slightly, simply apply a small piece of felt to the underside or lightly sand the contact surface. It is a small price to pay for the beauty of natural decor.
How to Display a Katana Correctly? A Lesson in Etiquette
As a history enthusiast, you surely know that the way a sword is stored has deep symbolism and rules.
- Edge Up: Japanese swords are always placed in the stand with the cutting edge (ha) facing upwards. This is not just tradition; it has a purely practical reason – it protects the delicate edge from dulling against the inner wooden side of the scabbard.
- Handle to the Left (Peace): In times of peace or in a friendly environment, the handle (tsuka) points to the left. This means the sword cannot be drawn immediately with the dominant right hand, signalling your peaceful intentions and respect for guests.
- Handle to the Right (War): If the handle points to the right, the sword is ready for immediate drawing. Historically, this signalled mistrust or readiness for combat.

Maintenance and Care
To keep the stand looking great, simply wipe it occasionally with a dry or slightly damp cloth to remove dust. Avoid aggressive chemical cleaners that could damage the veneer. Keep the velvet lining clean, for example using a lint roller, to prevent dust and abrasive particles from settling there, which could scratch the lacquer of your scabbard.
Safety Warning
Place the stand on a stable and level surface, out of reach of small children and pets. Although the stand is stable, heavier or very long swords may tip over if knocked carelessly. For perfect care of your blade, a traditional sword cleaning kit with Choji oil is a suitable addition to your collection.
