Templar Cloak with Hood | Heavy Cotton | White with Cross Pattée
Detailed Description and Features
This cloak is designed with a focus on historical appearance and practicality. It is crafted from heavy, coarsely woven cotton, featuring a texture that resembles period fabrics and feels very robust. A key feature is the spacious hood, which protects your head from the elements or gives you a mysterious look when pulled forward.
The fastening system is unique and offers two wearing options:
- Decorative Heavy Ropes: Distinctive cotton ropes with knots allow you to tie the cloak tightly at the neck, giving it a rugged, battle-ready appearance.
- Hidden Internal Ties: Discreet fabric tapes are sewn inside the cloak. By tying these around your chest/neck, you can wear the cloak open over your shoulders without it slipping off your back. This is perfect for displaying your surcoat or armor underneath.
On the left side, over the heart, a large, deep red Templar cross (Cross Pattée) is appliquéd. This symbol is securely stitched and forms the central visual element of the garment.
Historical Context: The White Mantle
In the early days of the Order, Templars wore whatever clothes were donated to them. This changed at the Council of Troyes in 1129, where the Pope granted them the white habit as a symbol of purity and celibacy. However, only full knights of the Order were permitted to wear this white mantle; sergeants and serving brothers wore black or brown. The famous red cross, symbolizing martyrdom, was granted later in 1147 by Pope Eugenius III. The cloak was not just for show but a necessity—nights in the Holy Land could be surprisingly cold, and the thick fabric also offered protection from the scorching sun during the day.

Care Instructions
As the cloak is made from natural cotton, it requires gentle care to maintain its shape and color:
- Washing: We recommend hand washing in lukewarm water (up to 30°C / 86°F) or a very gentle machine cycle. Cotton can shrink at high temperatures.
- Drying: Do not tumble dry. Hang the cloak and let it air dry.
- Bleaching: Do not use bleach, as this will damage the red cross and the fabric structure.
Please note: The price includes the cloak with hood only. The black tunic/surcoat and footwear shown in the photos are not included.
