Viking Helmet Gjermundbu with Aventail, Antique Finish
Become a True Viking
This helmet will captivate you at first glance with its iconic design. The helmet bowl is constructed from steel plates reinforced with cross-bands, typical of the Spangenhelm style. The dominant feature is the striking spectacle guard with a nasal protector, which not only provided facial protection but still commands respect today. The overall impression is enhanced by the antique, patinated finish, giving the helmet the appearance of a genuine, battle-worn artifact. Protection for the neck and throat is provided by an attached chainmail aventail, made from unriveted steel rings.
Internal Comfort and Fit
Inside the helmet, you will find a high-quality and comfortable adjustable leather liner, allowing you to fit it perfectly to your head. This ensures the helmet sits firmly and securely. A chin strap made of genuine leather, finished with a solid brass buckle, adds to the security. The interior of the bowl is also coated with black paint to enhance its resistance to corrosion.
Perfect for Your Persona
Whether you are an enthusiastic reenactor, a festival-goer, a LARP player, or a collector, this helmet is made for you. It is perfectly suited for portraying a Viking, Varangian, or a Kievan Rus' warrior from the 10th to 11th centuries. You can also use it as a unique element of your costume or as an impressive display piece.
Important Notice: This helmet is primarily intended for decorative purposes, costuming, LARP, and non-contact historical fencing. It is not designed or certified as protective equipment for full-contact combat such as HMB, buhurt, or the Battle of the Nations.

A Piece of History Within Your Grasp
The original of this helmet was found in 1943 in a burial mound in Gjermundbu, Norway. This find is utterly unique, as it is the only complete and unquestionably Viking helmet found in Scandinavia. The grave, dated to the 10th century, belonged to a high-ranking chieftain, as evidenced by the rich burial goods.
A Tidbit from History
Upon closer examination of the original artifact, evidence of damage from an edged weapon was discovered. This is clear proof that the helmet truly served its owner in battle and was not merely a ceremonial item. So, you are not just wearing a replica, but also the story of a real warrior.
How to Care for Your New Helmet
Your new helmet is coated with a layer of protective oil for shipping. You can easily wipe this off with a dry cloth before first use. To maintain its beauty and function, we recommend keeping the helmet dry. After each use, especially in a humid environment, dry it thoroughly and lightly apply a coat of preservative oil (like Ballistol) to the exterior. Keep the leather liner and strap dry and you can occasionally treat them with a leather care product.
