Two-Sided Leather Strop for Straight Razors, with Hook
For the perfectly sharp edge on your straight razor, a strop is an absolute necessity. This high-quality leather strop offers you two sides for complete blade care. The rougher, suede side (velour) is used for the initial alignment and preparation of the edge, while the smooth, grain-leather side is ideal for final polishing to achieve the finest sharpness. Thanks to the practical metal hook, you can easily hang it wherever you need it – whether in the bathroom, workshop, or at a historical camp. The sturdy leather handle at the other end ensures you can always keep the strop perfectly taut for precise work. It is an indispensable tool for every gentleman, re-enactor, or enthusiast of traditional shaving. Further product information ...

Two-Sided Leather Strop for Straight Razors, with Hook
Using this leather strop is simple. Secure it to a fixed point using the metal swivel hook. Grasp the leather handle in one hand and pull the strop taut. With the other hand, lay the razor blade flat on the strop and pull it spine-first (the opposite of honing on a stone) along the full length of the strop. At the end of the movement, roll the razor over its spine and pull it back in the same manner. First, use the rougher (suede) side to correct microscopic misalignments, and then use the smooth (grain) side for the final polish. The strop is typically used without any compound, but for a more aggressive edge, a polishing paste can be applied to the rougher side.
Historical Context
Strops are inextricably linked to the era of straight razors, which dominated men's grooming from the 17th to the early 20th century. Every barber, and many men at home, owned and used a strop daily to keep their razor in perfect condition. It was part of the ritual. With its metal hook and leather handle, this model fits perfectly as part of a re-enactment kit (e.g., Wild West, 19th century) or as a functional accessory for anyone who prefers a classic shave.
Product Care
To ensure your leather strop lasts as long as possible, keep it dry and clean. From time to time, you can lightly treat the smooth side with a leather conditioner to prevent it from hardening and cracking. The rough side can be refreshed with fine sandpaper or a brush if needed. Protect the strop from water and high temperatures. Never fold or crease it, as this could cause the leather to crack. This strop is the ideal accessory for our range of historical razors (e.g., SKU 1916001300) or as part of your field hygiene kit.
