During the High and Late Gothic periods (13th to 15th centuries), a leather belt was an absolute necessity for daily life. Medieval clothing lacked pockets, so all daily equipment was suspended directly from the waist. Simple horseshoe (or D-shaped) buckles forged from iron or cast from bronze were immensely popular for their practicality, durability, and relatively easy production. They were worn by a broad segment of the population, from commoners to soldiers. How to Properly Wear and Tie the Belt

The length of 150 cm (59 inches) gives you the opportunity to tie the belt in the traditional medieval manner. You simply fasten the belt at the buckle, pass the long free end underneath the fastened strap from the bottom up, and thread it down through the resulting loop. This creates a secure knot, and the remainder of the strap hangs casually down the leg. To ensure the belt fits you perfectly over any layers of your costume (from a thin linen shirt to a thick gambeson), it is deliberately supplied without pre-punched holes. You can easily punch the holes exactly where your waist circumference requires them using a leather hole punch.

This product is made of genuine cowhide leather with a substantial thickness of nearly 4 mm (0.15 inches). Minor variations in colour and surface texture are natural properties of this noble material and make each piece a unique original. To ensure the leather maintains its extreme strength, flexibility, and long-term stability, it requires maintenance. Treat the strap at least once a season with a high-quality leather balm containing beeswax. Never dry the leather near a direct heat source, such as a radiator or the open flames of a campfire, as it could harden and crack.
