From Historical Maces to Modern Law Enforcement

While massive wooden clubs, maces, or iron-bound cudgels were commonly used for personal protection and by the city watch for law enforcement in the Middle Ages and early modern period, our modern era demands far more sophisticated and discreet solutions. The concept of the telescopic baton began to spread massively in the second half of the 20th century among police forces, who needed a compact striking weapon that would not get in the way while seated in patrol vehicles. Practical Use and Safety Rules

The baton consists of three steel tubes. To open it, a vigorous flick of the wrist into open space is all that is required. The tubes securely lock together thanks to their tapered shape (Friction Lock system). For safety reasons, always remember that this is a highly effective weapon. In the event of necessary self-defence, aim primarily at the large muscle groups of the limbs (thighs, calves, forearms). Strikes to the head, neck, spine, or chest can cause fatal, life-threatening injuries and are strictly unacceptable in standard self-defence scenarios.

How to Properly Maintain the Friction Lock

To ensure the tool serves you reliably and does not fail in a crisis, keep it dry and completely clean. If the baton gets wet in the rain, fully extend it and allow it to dry thoroughly. Occasionally wipe the metal tubes with a dry cloth. Never lubricate the internal mechanism with oil or grease! Doing so would decrease friction, causing the tubes to fail to lock during a swing or the baton to collapse on its own. To close it, simply execute a smooth but firm downward strike with the tip vertically onto a hard, perfectly flat surface (such as concrete or asphalt).
