Construction and Ergonomics
The foundation of the knife is a "full-tang" construction, meaning the steel runs through the entire length and width of the handle. This is the strongest possible solution, eliminating the risk of the knife breaking at the handle even during demanding work. The blade has a "drop-point" shape with a significant belly, making it an excellent tool for skinning game. On the spine of the blade, you will find jimping (grooves), which serves as a thumb rest for precise work when you need to apply pressure to the blade.
The handle consists of scales made of hard olive wood, known for its high durability and beautiful, contrasting grain. The wood is pleasant to the touch, does not feel cold in winter, and thanks to the ergonomic shaping with a choil for the index finger, the knife sits absolutely securely in the palm. At the end of the handle, there is a brass-lined lanyard hole, which you will appreciate especially when working over water or at heights.
Material and Maintenance
The blade is made of stainless steel alloyed with Molybdenum and Vanadium (MoV). This combination of elements ensures high wear resistance, hardness, and toughness. Although the steel is stainless, I recommend cleaning and drying the knife after every use. If you cut fruit or other acidic foods, rinse the blade with water.
Pay special attention to the handle. Olive wood is naturally oily and robust, but it can dry out over time. Occasionally, wipe it with a cloth soaked in linseed oil or special wood oil. This will revive the grain pattern and protect the wood from moisture. Treat the leather sheath occasionally with a leather conditioner to prevent cracking and keep it supple.
