Elegant Champagne Sabre for Sabrage with Full-Tang Construction
Construction and Design
This sabre differs from historical military weapons by its specific construction designed exclusively for sabrage. The blade is blunt (which is desirable for this purpose) and is made of high-quality AISI 420 stainless steel, which is resistant to corrosion and easy to maintain. On the blade surface, you will find the elegant inscription "Sabre à Champagne". The construction is "full-tang", meaning the steel runs through the entire length of the handle. This ensures extraordinary strength and balance for the instrument.
The handle is formed by hardwood scales with beautiful grain, which are firmly riveted to the steel base. The absence of a basket (knuckle guard) gives this sabre the appearance of a large luxury knife or machete, making handling easier even for beginners. The handle ends with a hole featuring a threaded decorative tassel in a wine-red colour, adding a festive touch to the whole piece.
A Bit of History and Usage
The technique of sabrage originated during the Napoleonic Wars. It is said that Napoleon Bonaparte opened champagne with his sabre after winning battles, saying: "In victory one deserves it, in defeat one needs it." Today, it is a popular pastime at festive occasions. The sabre is guided along the seam of the bottle towards the neck, where hitting the annulus (ring) causes the glass to break cleanly along with the cork. The pressure inside the bottle then safely pushes any shards out.

Maintenance and Safety
Simply wipe the sabre with a damp cloth after use and dry it. Never wash it in a dishwasher, as this would damage the wooden handle and the finish. You can treat the wooden handle with beeswax or linseed oil from time to time to preserve its beauty.
Although the blade is blunt, remember that it is a heavy metal object. Always perform sabrage in a safe place, point the bottle neck into an open space (never at people or animals), and beware of the flying glass neck, which is very sharp. A high-quality leather apron would be a suitable accessory to protect your clothes while serving.
