German Flintlock Pistol with Brass Barrel
Transport yourself to the turbulent times of the Thirty Years' War, when the hooves of cavalry thundered across Europe and the air smelled of gunpowder. This magnificent replica of a 17th-century German flintlock pistol is a perfect example of the gunsmithing art of that era. Its dominant feature is the brass-coloured barrel, which flares towards the muzzle like a funnel, giving it the appearance of the feared "thunder sticks" or blunderbusses, popular for their ability to hit a target even from horseback. If you are looking for a striking accessory for a Musketeer costume, an Imperial Army officer, or just want to enhance your collection with a piece featuring distinct Baroque aesthetics, this pistol is a bullseye. German Flintlock Pistol with Brass Barrel: 17th Century Baroque Replica
Authentic Appearance and Detailed Ornamentation
You will especially appreciate the attention to detail on this replica by the Spanish company Denix.
- Barrel and Fittings: The metal parts are made of Zamak alloy. The barrel and trigger guard have an antique brass finish and are richly decorated with relief floral motifs, giving the pistol a grandiose appearance.
- Stock: It is made of durable polymer that faithfully imitates dark wood with a reddish tint. The grip shape is ergonomic and ends in a massive brass pommel (butt cap). Historically, this did not only serve to balance the weapon; after firing, the pistol was reversed, and the pommel functioned as a striking weapon (club) in close combat.
- Lock: The lock plate and hammer have a steel finish with a grey patina, creating a beautiful contrast to the brass elements.
Movable Mechanism
Although this is a non-firing decoration, the flintlock mechanism is movable and simulates the function of a real weapon:
- You can cock the hammer.
- Close the frizzen over the pan.
- Upon pulling the trigger, the hammer strikes, the frizzen flips open, and the mechanism clicks.
This effect adds credibility to the replica, which you will appreciate during theatre scenes, photoshoots, or at LARP events. The barrel is blocked, and the weapon cannot be modified to fire.
Replica Care
This pistol is made for enjoyment and display, not for rough handling.
- Avoid dropping it on hard surfaces (concrete, tiles). While the zinc alloy is heavy, it is more brittle than steel, and decorative elements could snap off.
- Use a dry, soft cloth for cleaning. Water and moisture could damage the patina or the internal mechanism.
- Lubricate the mechanism occasionally with a drop of silicone oil to keep it running smoothly.
