Ancient Gallic Leather Shoes with High Lacing and Decoration
The Thoughtful Design of the Ancient Celts
Gauls and Celtic warriors were known for their bravery, but also for their ingenuity. Their footwear had to withstand demanding marches while protecting the foot from the hazards of the terrain. This model, reaching approximately a third of the way up the calf, is based exactly on these principles. The upper covering the toe and instep is stitched together from two halves with a prominent longitudinal seam (often in a contrasting light colour), giving the shoe its characteristic shape. The deep cutouts on the sides ensured perfect ventilation in the summer months and prevented uncomfortable foot sweating. The lacing over the calf then secured the footwear in place and provided support for the ankle.

Proper Care to Maintain Quality
Leather is a living material that needs to be cared for regularly. The upper of these boots is already heavily impregnated by the manufacturer with a blend of palm oil, animal fat, and beeswax, which significantly increases its durability. To prevent the leather from cracking, regularly rub a high-quality leather balm or oil into it. The leather will remain soft, supple, and after application will acquire a beautiful, slightly darker patina. Always let soaked footwear dry very slowly at room temperature. Under no circumstances should you dry the boots near a radiant fire, on a radiator, or in direct sunlight.
Important Information on Colours and Sizes
The basic, naturally dyed shades for this footwear are black, dark brown, and light brown (natural). Please bear in mind that if you choose a different, unconventional colour in your order, this shade is created using a special covering lacquer paint. This layer may crack or flake slightly over time in stressed areas and bends of the leather. For occasional festival wear, this finish is perfectly adequate, but for extreme and frequent stress, we recommend you choose the natural basic colours.
Thanks to the modern styropor sole with a low heel, you gain comfort and much better traction in these boots than with a historical smooth sole. If you wear orthotic insoles and choose our custom-made sizing option, it is absolutely essential that you physically post these insoles to us. We will carefully seat them into your new boots to provide you with perfect support.
We highly recommend purchasing stylish linen or woollen trousers from our range to accompany these Gallic boots, which you can easily tuck in and lace up.
