Replacement Bowstring for Youth Bows – 36.5"

History and Evolution of the Bowstring

Did you know that historically, the bowstring was often more valuable than the bow itself? In the Middle Ages, strings were made from flax fibres, hemp, silk, or even animal sinew and gut. It was a science – the string had to be strong but possess very little stretch. Moisture was its greatest enemy, so archers waxed their strings and hid them under their caps to keep them dry. Today's synthetic materials, like the one used for this string, have a huge advantage: they are affordable, durable, and unaffected by weather changes, so you can practice even after the rain.

Installation and Usage

Stringing a bow requires a bit of practice. While it is easier with children's bows, always prioritize safety. Ensure that the string sits exactly in the grooves (nocks) on the bow limbs. The string is intended exclusively for light bows. Never use it on weapons stronger than what it is designed for, as it could snap and cause injury.

Care and Safety

To make your string last as long as possible, treat it well:

  • Never dry fire: Shooting without an arrow is the worst thing you can do to a bow and string. All the energy that would go into the arrow remains in the bow and string, which can lead to immediate destruction.
  • Inspection: Check the string before every shooting session. If it is frayed or damaged anywhere, replace it immediately.
  • Storage: If you are not using the bow for a long time, it is better to unstring it so that the bow limbs do not tire unnecessarily.

Please note that a bowstring is a consumable item. Just as car tyres wear down, a string wears out with shooting. Therefore, the standard warranty covers only manufacturing defects detected before the first use, not normal wear and tear or breakage caused by usage.
