Modern Design with Historical Roots
The origin of the tonfa goes deep into the history of Okinawa Island. Originally, it was a wooden handle for a millstone used to grind rice or grain. When common farmers were forbidden to carry swords, they began using agricultural tools to defend themselves against samurai. Thus, Kobudo was born. The modern police world discovered the benefits of the tonfa in the 1970s (the famous PR-24 model). The side handle allows for something a classic baton cannot do – it perfectly protects the forearm during blocks and enables effective locks and immobilization of an opponent without having to inflict serious injury with strikes.
Practical Usage and Features
This model is designed with a focus on functionality. The short side handle ends with a widened pommel ("Stop"), which prevents the weapon from slipping out of your hand during rotation or sudden movements. The long end of the tonfa is tipped with a reinforced head, designed to serve as a glass breaker in an emergency (for example, at a car accident). Polypropylene has excellent memory properties and absorbs shock better than wood.

Maintenance and Care
Compared to wooden weapons, caring for this tonfa is simple. The material is non-absorbent.
- If the tonfa gets dirty, simply wash it with soapy water and dry it with a cloth.
- Do not expose it to extreme temperatures for long periods (e.g., behind a car windshield in direct summer sun), although the material is very stable.
- Regularly check the surface to see if deep scratches from training have sharp edges that could injure you or your sparring partner. Any burrs can be smoothed out with fine sandpaper.
Safety Warning
Although the tonfa is made of plastic, it is a highly effective weapon. A strike delivered with this tonfa can cause fractures or serious internal injuries. During partner training (drills), exercise extreme caution and use protective gear. This product is not a toy and should not be left in the hands of children without supervision.
