Folding Karambit Knife "Red Circle"
Are you fascinated by the blend of exotic history and modern tactical design? The "Red Circle" Karambit pocket knife is a predator in a compact package. Its design is based on ancient Indonesian weapons that mimicked a tiger's claw, but its materials and construction belong firmly in the 21st century. The contrast between the matte black blade and red accents in the handle gives it an aggressive and unmistakable look. It is the ideal tool for those seeking an efficient knife for Everyday Carry (EDC) or a striking addition to their collection. Further product information ...
Folding Karambit Knife "Red Circle"
History and Modern Utility
The origins of the karambit date back to the 11th century in the islands of Indonesia and Malaysia, where it originally served as an agricultural tool for cutting roots and harvesting rice. Over time, however, its efficiency transformed it into a feared weapon in martial arts (such as Pencak Silat). Today, the karambit is popular for its curved blade (Hawkbill), which is a master of the so-called pull cut. Cardboard, ropes, webbing, or linoleum—nothing withstands this shape, as the material is drawn directly against the edge.
Construction and Ergonomics
The 65 mm (2.56 inch) blade is made of 420 stainless steel with a black coating. Opening is easy with one hand using the thumb stud. The handle is made of light metal (aluminium alloy) and is significantly lightened by circular holes, through which the red steel liners are visible. The dominant feature is the rear safety ring, a typical hallmark of karambits. It allows for a very firm grip (using the index or little finger) and prevents the knife from being dropped even in extreme situations. The blade is secured by a Linerlock mechanism.
Care and Maintenance
The specific shape of the karambit requires specific care:
- Sharpening: Do not use flat stones on the curved edge. Oval sharpening rods, ceramic rods, or honing steels that follow the blade's radius are ideal.
- Cleaning: Thanks to the open handle construction, dirt does not accumulate easily; simply blowing it out and wiping it down occasionally is sufficient.
- Lubrication: Apply a drop of oil to the blade pivot to maintain smooth action.
