Hand-Forged "Iron Loop" Medieval Knife with Leather Sheath
Design and Practical Use
The construction of this knife is based on ancient designs often referred to today as a "blacksmith's knife." Due to the absence of handle scales that could crack or rot, this knife is extremely durable. The high carbon steel ensures the blade holds a sharp edge and is easy to resharpen when needed. The spiral loop end of the handle allows you to thread a leather lanyard through it, securing the knife against loss or hanging it from your neck or gear. The surface bears the marks of forging (brut de forge), adding an authentic patina to the knife.

Historical Insight: The Universal Tool
Knives of this construction, where the handle transitions seamlessly from the blade and ends in a loop or volute, have been with humanity since the Iron Age. They were very popular among Celts, Germanic tribes, Vikings, and Slavs. Found in both male and female graves, they were true universal tools used for everything from food preparation and leatherworking to carving. Their simplicity was their greatest strength.
Maintenance and Safety
Since the knife is made of carbon steel, it requires a little care to prevent rust. Clean and dry it after every use. If you plan not to use it for a long time, do not store it in the leather sheath (leather absorbs moisture) and coat the blade with a protective oil or beeswax. Please note that the blade is delivered sharp and is intended as a working tool, not for contact combat. Over time, a dark patina will form on the steel; this is a natural property of the material and a sign of its history.
A quality natural whetstone would be a great addition to this knife to keep the edge keen.
