A combined bow and arrow case has deep historical roots, primarily among the mounted archers of the Asian and Eastern European steppes. It is known by the Greek term gorytos (used by the Scythians) or simply as an equestrian bow case, an indispensable piece of equipment for the Huns, Avars, Mongols, and Magyars. Traditional composite bows, glued from horn, wood, and sinew, were extremely sensitive to moisture. The leather case protected the bow from rain and damage, while the integrated quiver ensured the rider had arrows instantly at hand without clumsily reaching over their back. The boar fur on this model serves not only an aesthetic function; historically, fur helped dampen the rattling of arrows and protected the entrance to the case from incoming water.

Proper Measurement and Custom Tailoring

To prevent your bow from falling out of the case while riding or moving sharply, this case is stitched exactly to the dimensions of your weapon. It is designed to be worn on the back over the shoulder using an adjustable carrying strap and is suitable for bows with a maximum total length of up to 160 cm (63 inches). We need precise measurements from you to proceed with production. String your bow (measure it in its strung, ready-to-shoot state) and provide the following details in your order notes (in centimetres or inches):

• Total length of the bow (measured from tip to tip)
• Maximum outer width of the bow (the distance from the string to the outer belly of the bow, usually around the handle)
• Desired depth of the quiver (ideally, arrows should protrude about 5 cm / 2 inches from the quiver for easy drawing)

If your bow has a very specific shape, we highly recommend attaching a photo to your order so our saddler can best adapt the cut of the case.

Leather Care and Safety Guidelines

The primary material is robust, full-grain cowhide. We recommend regularly treating the leather with a high-quality beeswax-based balm to maintain its suppleness and water resistance. If the genuine boar fur gets dirty, simply brush it gently with a soft brush in the direction of hair growth. If you are caught in heavy rain, let the case dry naturally at room temperature. Never dry the leather near a direct heat source, such as an open fire or a radiator, as it will harden and irreversibly crack. For safety reasons, ensure that the arrows placed in the quiver have target or 3D points of appropriate thickness; broadhead hunting points could slice through the leather and cause severe injury if you fall. Never use the carrying strap as a climbing harness or for tying up a horse.
