As the blade is made from carbon steel, it is susceptible to rust, just like the historical originals. To maintain its appearance and function, keeping it dry is crucial. After each use (even after just touching it), wipe the blade thoroughly dry. Regularly conserve it with oil (e.g., mineral oil, gun oil, or paraffin oil). Treat the leather handle with leather care products to prevent it from drying out and cracking. Never leave the knife in a damp environment or clean it in a dishwasher.
